VALLETTA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — The Chinese Embassy in Malta hosted a reception Saturday night to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, one of China’s most cherished traditional holidays.
The festive atmosphere at the embassy was enriched by performances featuring singing and performances of Chinese traditional musical instruments. Attendees exchanged best wishes while savoring mooncakes, a traditional Chinese delicacy enjoyed during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Addressing the reception, Peng Yijun, charge d’affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Malta, highlighted the significant progress in China-Malta relations across various sectors, including cultural exchanges, clean energy, green economy, economic and trade investment, health, and tourism. He said that this ongoing collaboration has been instrumental in injecting positive energy into China-European Union (EU) relations.
“China’s future will bring new historical opportunities and brighter prospects,” Peng said, adding, “We believe that with the inspiring momentum of the motherland’s development and the solid, friendly ties between China and Malta, the future for overseas Chinese in Malta will be even more promising.”
Liang Jiaqi from Macao, China, told Xinhua that attending the Mid-Autumn Festival reception made her feel “at home.” She expressed her hope for a stronger China and closer China-Malta relations.
Li Min, who has lived in Malta for 25 years, said the reception brought him a sense of warmth and connection with his homeland. “We overseas Chinese will continue to contribute to the prosperity of our motherland,” he said.
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Sept. 17 this year. Traditionally, it is time for family getting-together in China. ■
